2 preliminary remarks

1.This page builds on the overview of the genesis of the Speculum Maius (see Overview of genesis), which presents information on the parts or specula: Speculum Naturale, Speculum Doctrinale, Speculum Historiale and (apocryphal) Speculum Morale, and on their specific components and surviving versions.

2. For reasons of clarity and comparibility with the modern editions, this presentation of early editions concentrates on the individual parts of the Speculum Maius. However, the user should be aware that several early printers produced editions of more than one part of the Speculum Maius. These printers are:
